During our Payroll Regulations webinar we discussed the roles and responsibilities of a payroll processor or business owner. Topics included hiring employees, paying employees, types of employment income, statutory deductions, employee terminations and year end payroll responsibilities.
We had a very active question and answer section where many very valuable questions were asked. Should any of our participants have any further questions we invite you to email us at
info@businessiqtraining.com I would like to highlight and expand on to some of the question areas:
Can young persons work between 12:01am and 6:00am?
Yes they can however the regulations state that they must have written guardian consent and be supervised by an adult.
If Municipal councilors receive a stipend is this considered contract income or salary income?
the following link within the Revenue Canada website addresses how income is taxed for elected officers of incorporated municipalities. Depending on how your municipal councilors are compensated the following link should clarify your question.
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tp/it292/it292-e.html If you require further clarification I recommend that you call Revenue Canada directly.
Are there specific payroll regulations for the Not-for Profit sector?
I could not find any special regulations regarding this particular industry. To the best of my knowledge not-for-profit organizations would be bound by the same regulations as other industries.
Are there specific payroll regulations for temporary foreign workers?

Contact UsOctober 16, 2011 Business IQ Training has been nominated for the 2011 Employer of Choice Award by Office Manager Stacey Merrick. The key to success here at Business IQ Training is our people. My staff show amazing dedication and enthusiasm for what they do every day and for that I am grateful and proud. Stacey shared with me her award nomination and I decided to post it on our blog as I feel it is an excellent representation of the business ethics that Business IQ portrays daily. Thank you for your nomination Stacey, I am very honoured!
2011 Employer of Choice Award - Sponsored by Alberta Works and presented through the Camrose Chamber of CommerceEmployer of Choice Award Nomination for Business IQ Training
As one of the first employees of Business IQ Training, owned by Lisa Rohr, I believe in its purpose and its ownership. I have worked for Lisa for almost 2 years and have greatly enjoyed being an integral part of her business plan. Lisa is an exceptional employer because of her ability to assess and accommodate the individual needs of her employees. When it comes to life’s obligations, she is a firm believer that family is first. Another key fact is that, as an employee of Business IQ Training, I have never had to bring a lunch to work. Lisa believes in providing a healthy meal to, not only the clients we train in our facility, but to the staff as well. It is an amazing perk. With every week that passes, she has always been one to go out of her way, whether by email or small token, to show her appreciation of me and the work I do. I am, as many people say, spoiled and it makes me excited to go to work every day.
Lisa’s management style is one of fairness and equality. She plays an active role in her business. She shows leadership by not hesitating to help when even the most mundane tasks need to be completed. We all are required to pitch in and keep the business running smoothly. She is a prime illustration of leading by example.
I was first introduced to Business IQ as a student but as I showed such an interest and aptitude for Microsoft® application programs, I was offered a position. I was first hired to be an Instructor and the Office Manager, however, my responsibilities have constantly developed to become even more involved. Since working for Business IQ Training, I have been able to participate in business decisions regarding the continuous growth of the company and Lisa has entrusted me with a variety of tasks such as product development. Business IQ has committed to ongoing education for its employees by way of technology conferences and ongoing, in-house training.
Lisa is also a community-minded employer. She has generously donated certificates to a variety of charities and causes such as the CMHA golf tournament and Fine Wines and Summer Finds in support of Camrose Victim Services. We even developed a workshop for the Camrose Job Finders Club named Community Connections Through Volunteerism so that we could teach the importance of volunteering in our community.
I believe that Lisa Rohr has personal integrity and the fact is, she has extended her personal values to be an essential part of her business practices. I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for both her and how Business IQ is managed. I am proud to be a part of her team.
Sincerely,
Stacey Merrick

September 3, 2011 This morning I began reading the book Crush It! By Gary Vaynerchuk and it has inspired me to write this posting. The full title of the book is Why Now is the Time to Crush It! Cash in on Your Passion. Three words easily describe this book…Inspiring, Honest, Exciting. To elaborate:
Inspiring: This book makes you want to follow your dreams. I am already taking some of Gary’s advice and I haven’t even gotten 50 pages into the book!
Honest: The book is brutally honest. Gary talks about making your work your passion so that work becomes a part of your life, not just something that you do so that you can enjoy life….so true!
Exciting: By reading the first 20 pages I realized that I am passionate about what I do for a living. My work is a big part of my life and I am proud of that. I no longer feel ashamed of that feeling like I should work as little as possible and spend more time on other aspects of my life. I am proud of the services that my business offers and my work makes me a better person….that revelation is so EXCITING!
Why am I passionate about my work you ask? Well first and foremost because I like to help people, always have and always will. Helping others to achieve success has always provided me a sense of fulfillment. The fact that my new business venture Business IQ Training allows me to help others achieve success is the number one reason why I am passionate about my work. Many of my life success’s can be attributed to help and support that I have received from family members, close friends and members of my community so I know how important giving someone “a hand up” can be. The beauty of Business IQ Training is that I now get paid to help others succeed, therefore attributing to my success….a true life example of what goes around comes around!
To all of my followers and supporters….thank you! I enjoy sharing my story with you and I am thankful everyday for all the wonderful things in my life….including you!
